Do I need any printmaking experience to join a workshop?

Accepted Answer

No experience needed. Workshops are designed for total beginners. Nathalie demonstrates each step and works alongside you, and the small group size of six means you get plenty of personal attention.

What's included in the workshop fee?

All chemistry, paper, tools, and protective gear are included, plus tea, coffee and biscuits. You leave with multiple finished prints, bookmarks and a wall hanging on fabric for the cyanotype workshop, or a wide range of colourful monoprints, bookmarks and greeting cards for the gelli print workshop.

How many people are in each workshop?

The Penllergare Woodland Centre workshops take a maximum of six people. The Art Cabin workshop in the garden takes a maximum of three people for a more intimate experience.

Where are the workshops held?

Most public workshops are at Penllergare Woodland Centre, SA4 9GS, just off the M4 in Swansea. The Art Cabin workshop is held at the artist's garden cabin on Culfor Road in Loughor.

What is cyanotype?

Accepted Answer

Cyanotype is a 19th-century photographic printing process invented in 1842 that produces striking Prussian-blue images. Objects are placed onto chemically-coated paper and exposed to UV light, then washed in water to fix the print. It's the same process Anna Atkins used for the world's first photographically illustrated book.
